A Quick Trip: Parents Only Trip to Leukerbad!

While James’ grandparents were in town, we were nervous but excited to head out of town for our first night away from the baby. One of the spots on my list to see in Switzerland was Leukerbad, the town with the highest and largest hot water thermal baths in the Swiss Alps that I had seen on Instagram. 😆

As brand new parents, it sounded like relaxing getaway for us – and the Thermalhotels & Walliser Alpentherme Leukerbad was lovely. We had trained to the Swiss German area so we had brats and rosti at a small chalet run by a sweet woman who was serving tables, cooking, and cleaning all on her own.

We took a quick stroll through the itty bitty town…

and after an afternoon soak in the thermal baths,  we had an amazing dinner at Sacre Bonwhere it was astounding to eat together for longer than five minutes.  We were in town off season so it was fairly quiet and gave us a great opportunity to breathe. The thermal mountain water is very rich in minerals – a healing bonus for our sore backs and arms (this rapidly growing baby is getting very heavy!) But we had (perhaps unfairly) expected them to be more “natural” – more built within the mountains themselves perhaps? And these were really more developed large pools.

All the same – the views were fantastic, the meal was spectacular, and we came back refreshed to our very well-cared for little one. Thanks Gram and Pop-Pop! It was about a 2.5 hour train/bus ride from Geneva to the Valais region (which is always a treat in itself in Switzerland given the views) – so it may be a bit far for the payoff for the Genevois, but a really lovely and restorative experience!
